From Watermelon to Pumpkin Seeds and Carmel Corn
I first saw some leaves laying on the grass about a month ago, and it made me really sad. This means that summer is gone. The leaves are no longer growing, they are dying. No more fresh tomatoes for dinner, no more fresh zucchini (thank goodness, that stuff was killing me) No more sprinklers under the trampoline, I could go on and on.
But now I am remembering how much I like the fall, so please pass some more apple cider while I finish knitting a sweater that will make a walk in the crisp air just perfect. And for a few moments it will be as if life truly is exactly like the pictures on the fall edition of the L.L. Bean catalog, (except with split ends, and dirty, wrinkled clothes, and breakfast dishes in the sink.)

Oh goody, humble pie!
We went running as a family the other night. Actually the peeps were in the jogging stroller, and B-rad was their motor. Then for one crazy moment we let the girls out of the stroller so they could wear themselves out. Peep 2 took off, and for a good three minutes she was running quite a bit faster than me.
While wearing a dress.
And flip-flops.
On the wrong feet.
Did I mention she is not yet three?
(Insert long, heavy sigh.)

Possible Celeb Sighting 6 Years Ago

Arroyo Secco Park. Dusk. A horse. Julia Child. What do these have in common? It is possible that I did see Julia Child riding a horse in Arroyo Secco Park six years ago. I was with my friend Marianne, we were waiting for her son to finish soccer practice. An extermely old red headed woman with osteoporosis came riding by. Marianne looked at each other and asked, "Is that Julia Child?" I will never know for sure...but it just seems like the kind of thing that could happen on a Thursday night.

Revenge of the Tommyknockers
My mom used to read that story to us. They are little people that create havoc around the house. We have them here I know it! Here are a few things that have gone missing:
child's ballet slipper size 7
driver's license
credit card (later found)
car keys- found then missing again, once again found
roll of masking tape
credit card
bottle of bleach
There is plus side to all this. While looking for some of these items I found a shirt that I had lost, a CTR ring, and now have a really clean closet. But our masking tape! Come on Tommyknockers, have you no heart?

In need of an intervention
We are out of Easter chocolate. I am now getting into the gross candy that I purchased thinking that I would stay away from it because it does not taste good. It's not working, I now have lowered my candy standards, and will eat anything. We have got to get this candy out of here. Now.

The Name Game
The other day my peeps kept calling me by my first name. I ignored it for about an hour, then I finally said, "You are exactly right that is my name, but you can just call me Mom."
Peep One responded with, "We have to call you by your first name, because we are pretending you are our next door neighbor."
(I will take that as a compliment.)

The Secret
to saying on top of getting clothes washed is to toilet-train a two-year old. Simple.
Note: I just said washed, this does not include folding and putting laundry away. That part still remains a mystery to me.

Go Figure
Soooooo, even though this particular event happened at Christmastime I still think it is worth blogging about.
Admittedly I don't like to spend a lot of time and effort when it comes to making dinner. Although when I have to take a dish somewhere I do really try. Alas, my success is limited, but I can do a few complicated dishes with fairly positive feedback. I was pretty busy the day of our ward party, and didn't know I was supposed to bring a side dish until an hour before we needed to go. So I pulled out a box of Betty Crocker Au Gratin Potatoes, added the butter and water, and threw the thing in the oven. Then I proceeded to forget about the whole thing, and burned it a tiny bit. Time was of the essence so I took my burned, from a box potatoes to the party, and set the dish down as quickly as I could so no one could match the dish to me.
When we went through the serving line, I noticed that there was one dish of potatoes completely gone, yep my burned Betty's were now resting in tummies of ward members. How did this happen? I am never going to spend any time on food again. Everyone is getting box mixes. It's what the people want.

Celeb Sighting

There I was at Smith's Market Place with more than I could handle watching my peeps crash the child-size shopping carts into anything and anyone. (Please heed my warning, the little carts and a very determined two-year old do not mix!) When Peep 2 goes crashing into a cart being pushed my none other than BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall. Even though he had a baseball cap pulled very low on his head and was hiding out in the vitamin aisle, I recognized him immediately. It took an incredible amount of self-restraint on my part to keep from giving him some of my thoughts on how the team can improve next year. I don't want to come across as a crazed fan. Instead I just smiled and kept on walking, after I made a mental note of everything he had in his cart. If you want to know what Bronco buys at the grocery store, feel free to ask. I will let you look at the list I made, and keep safe....under my pillow.
