I have had the lyrics to this commercial run through my head at least once a week since the fourth grade. Enjoy, it's a classic!

Ding Dong Ditch
![]()
Oh the holidays. The hustle, the bustle, the shopping, the wrapping, the decorating, the snow, and oh yes the neighborhood treats. The goodies for the neighbors is going to be the thing that does me in. It started so innocently with good intentions and wanting to show appreciation to the great people we live around. Then it got out of control. Neighborhood treats in this subdivision is like trick-or-treating in reverse. I guess there is some day that everyone (except me) knows as "goody dispensing day." Last year our doorbell was ringing off the hook. The plates laden with all kinds homemade delectables kept piling up on our doorstep.
It was my first year in the neighborhood, and I didn't know how things worked. Complete strangers from several streets over were dropping off their offerings of chocolaty yumminess. We were touched and overwhelmed. I was scrambling madly to give treats to all the neighborhood. Plus there is the added pressure to not only give to everyone but to give something delicious and memorable.
I don't remember anything anyone left us last year, except I do remember the things for our Bishop mistakenly delivered to us.
This year is going to be different. I have my list, I have packaged and delivered half of my very easy-to-make treats, and will finish up this weekend. Bring it on neighborhood I am ready! And this year we are keeping all treats delivered to our house by mistake. Sorry Bishop.

I barely survived the crash
Our computer was going to a blue screen and giving us an error message. It was a week and a half of trauma. I kept worrying about what was going on the net, while I was completely cut off from cyber-world. I started getting anxious when I realized that I couldn't just get information willey nilley anymore. How could I find out what was voted off Dancing With the Stars without the internet? Once, last week, I even had to use the computer at the library.
It wasn't just me. All my peeps were feeling the strain. Kate only likes to pound on the keyboard when the screen is on. Emily constantly reminded Brad to fix her computer so she can play games. And Brad, dear Brad you could almost feel the pain his organizational, extreme neatness, genes felt as he looked at the growing pile of papers, books, wires, pens, and other stuff that was once our computer desk. Because hey, now that the computer had crashed, the desk became a great place to store stuff.
Then Brad the genius saved the day! Our computer works! Glorious glorious day. It is reassuring to think that if I do need to do some sort of research, I can. (Which by the way hasn't really happened since college.) Emily may have her 20 minutes of PBS Kids, and Kate can ruin the keyboard once again. Brad happily spent an hour and a half restoring order to the computer and desk. Thanks Brad for putting smiles back on all of our faces!

365 Days!
Happy Birthday Kate! It does not seem possible that my baby is one year old. Kate had three birthday parties, but was only totally present for 1 1/2. She was falling asleep during dinner so we stopped dinner to sing happy birthday. I got the cake ready and Emily blew out her candle. Then we got out the presents, which Emily opened. We gave her a piece of cake, which she had zero interest in, so Emily ate the icing for her. Four minutes later Kate was in bed. I guess turning one can really wear a girl out.
Kate is so much fun, and makes us laugh everyday. Emily always wants to know where Kate is and vice versa. Kate loves to climb on everything, and is such a smiley girl (when the pacifier is not in her mouth.) We love you Kate! Happy B-day!

Imogen Heap - Just For Now (live at Studio 11 103.1FM)
Sometimes I imagine that my five years of piano lessons were not in vain, and that I can not only play the piano but sing like Imogen. This is just for fun, enjoy!

Carrots not Carats

We dug up all of our garden. I use the term garden very loosely. It was our first attempt and we learned quite a bit. Although we were very successful in the carrots. I mean it was like those carrots had been watered in miracle grow. The reality is we ignored them all summer. Despite our lack of care we now could feed ten rabbit families all winter.
I have offered some of our neighbors carrots and they have politely declined. I think one lady is avoiding me for fear that I will offer her more produce. They are carrots people not zucchini. They increase night vision, and are full of anti-oxidants, not to mention really good! I just want to dump them on doorsteps. But I think everyone would know I left them. Maybe we'll get a rabbit.

Driver's Ed Revisited

I have to go grocery shopping tomorrow. Which means I have to face the dreaded "car carts." You've seen them, the shopping carts that are supposed to resemble a car. I guess the purpose is to keep your child occupied and happily "driving" the car while you shop. Let me alert the designer of the car cart, they don't work.
I cannot tell you how many innocent shoppers I have accidently rammed with the car cart which weighs as much as an elephant. The turning radius is somewhat lacking in a car cart. You are better off just making a circle around the entire store then flipping a u-turn in that beast.
Because the child is low to the ground they can GET OUT of the cart very easily, and then I end up chasing my three-year old down the aisle while trying to push the cart beast.
If you can turn a light on and off by the mere clap of your hands, (The Clapper) why can't someone design a shopping cart that one can push through a store?

Loyal Traitors

Brad and I are both BYU football fans. We love the game, we discuss it's finer points. We discuss the players, their performance, we love Bronco, we love it all. But yet deep inside me a little voice says that I am a traitor and have no right to be a BYU fan. You see I hold a degree from USU. I have never gone to BYU. By all accounts I am an Aggie.
I have many fond memories of my time at Utah State. I love the friends I met, the classes I took. I love the campus, the beauty of Cache Valley. Never ever in my life have I been able to cheer for the USU football team. (Not even when they would actually win some of their games.) As a college student I would attend the USU/BYU football game and sit in the BYU section wearing BYU blue and pray for the Cougars to crush the Aggies. All the while trying to squash the nagging voice inside of me.
My parents raised me on Cougar football, and so I do blame part of this on them. Do I have to have gone to BYU to be a true blue fan?
So as my peeps and I sat in the pouring rain during the game on Saturday, "Rising and Shouting" with the rest of the Cougar Nation I could hear that little voice ask, "would you do this for the Aggies?" The answer is of course NO! I feel like I have paid my dues. Sweltering sun, pouring rain, I have done it all for the Cougars. I deserve to be a fan- Sorry Aggies catch you next time.

A little slice of heaven

The Sunday Nap. This is a ritual I have embraced for over 20 years. I come from a long line of Sunday Nappers, everyone in my family has participated.
There was a stage in my life from about 7-11 years of age that I did not nap, although my parents still did. My brothers and sisters would just play on our own, and even avoided getting into major trouble or having to big of fights during that time. We knew that technically their was a parent home, and somehow they would know if trouble was to be had even though they were unconscious at the time.
Then the unthinkable happened. I married a Non-napper! How could this happen you ask? I can't explain it myself. We have found a way to make things work and live amicably under the same roof, even if it means that many times I have gone without Sunday afternoon z's.
Several factors have attributed to this. Number one: having children. We can't always get everyone asleep at the same time. Number two: afternoon church. It just louses up our whole schedule, and robs us of our afternoon. Number three: the previous mentioned non-napper living in our home.
But today was a glorious day! We had earlier church, and the two littlest peeps who live here went to sleep AT THE SAME TIME. Then I and the non-napper both took naps! (I think I'm rubbing off on him. I'll make a napper out of him yet.) I'm telling you it was amazing. Plan a Sunday Nap in your life, you'll be glad that you did.

Bad Germs
Both girls are sick today. Emily is throwing up, Kate has a fever and both are very miserable. So I thought I would post this picture of happier times when Kate would push her big sister around in the doll stroller. Times when I didn't have to be either cleaning up throw-up or holding miserable girls. I feel so bad for them, and am anxious for them to be back to their old selves. It was a long night last night, a long day today, and who knows how tonight will go. Here's to holding onto sanity by the tips of my fingers and hoping for the best. Get well soon girls!

I've done it. I have finally caved and joined the blogger world. I have been lurking for a year now, reading your posts, enjoying your lives, yet never fully partcipating in the full blogger experience. So now after a year of standing on the side of the pool and dipping my toes in to test the waters I am taking the plunge and diving in. (I just hope it goes better then the painful belly flop I performed for my swimming class in the 8th grade!)
