The Sunday Nap. This is a ritual I have embraced for over 20 years. I come from a long line of Sunday Nappers, everyone in my family has participated.
There was a stage in my life from about 7-11 years of age that I did not nap, although my parents still did. My brothers and sisters would just play on our own, and even avoided getting into major trouble or having to big of fights during that time. We knew that technically their was a parent home, and somehow they would know if trouble was to be had even though they were unconscious at the time.
Then the unthinkable happened. I married a Non-napper! How could this happen you ask? I can't explain it myself. We have found a way to make things work and live amicably under the same roof, even if it means that many times I have gone without Sunday afternoon z's.
Several factors have attributed to this. Number one: having children. We can't always get everyone asleep at the same time. Number two: afternoon church. It just louses up our whole schedule, and robs us of our afternoon. Number three: the previous mentioned non-napper living in our home.
But today was a glorious day! We had earlier church, and the two littlest peeps who live here went to sleep AT THE SAME TIME. Then I and the non-napper both took naps! (I think I'm rubbing off on him. I'll make a napper out of him yet.) I'm telling you it was amazing. Plan a Sunday Nap in your life, you'll be glad that you did.

In my own defense when I take naps I can't sleep at night very well. For instance, this past Sunday when I took a nap I was unable to sleep until well after midnight. Needing to wake up early for work this makes napping most undesirable. I have nothing against naps. I think nap people are just as nice and good as non nap people, but naps just don't always get along with everyone.

I, too, love the Sunday naps. But alas, we have not taken them since Samantha was little and napping. How did your parents train you kids to leave them alone? Mine cannot possibly resist touching or talking to a trying-to-sleep parent. :)
